Vlog 6: Our Findings

Vlog 1 :

In this video, we cover the first two days of our trip, including our flight to Costa Rica and city tour of the historic capital, San Jose. We didn’t go to any farms on these days, but we did narrow down and change our research question after doing some background research on the specific farms we would be visiting the following days.

Vlog 2:

We visited the first two farms on days three and four of the trip, plus the Irazu Volcano. The first farm, Rinconcito, utilized crop rotation and intercropping when planting all of their crops and provided some great research for our project. The second farm, the UNA Coffee Plantation, didn’t use crop rotation but did use intercropping to some extent as a technique and provided a good comparison for our research.

Vlog 3:

On days 5 and 6 of the trip, we went to the Zarcero Co-Op, the farm where the crop rotation methods used at Rinconcito were pioneered by Henry Guerrero. Then, we visited a conventional pineapple farm which didn’t use crop rotation or intercropping and the Talamanca Co-Op, which used banana plants interspersed with cacao plants, a prime example of intercropping.
